xBPP - the new name for BPP's
alumni association!
Issue 2 Spring 2010
Welcome to the latest Law e-newsletter from xBPP. We have had some great feedback from xBPP members since the first issue, and we hope you enjoy this one just as much. We’d love to hear your thoughts – please contact Will Finch with ideas for news articles or features.
The highlight of 2009 was undoubtedly the inaugural xBPP Law event in Manchester, which I was fortunate enough to attend. Over 140 former students enjoyed drinks and canapés whilst taking in the staggering views of the city from the 23rd floor of the Hilton Hotel. It was wonderful for staff and colleagues to see so many familiar faces and catch up on personal news.
We will soon be announcing details of a series of very special events for all our London-based members. We expect the events to be very popular, so to ensure you are among the first to know, find us on Facebook, follow us on Twitter, or keep checking back at our events page. If you have recently changed your contact details, you can also update your details here.
Another exciting recent development was the launch of xBPP Business, the alumni association for our friends in BPP’s Business School. Former students from all parts of the BPP family are very important to us, and I look forward to meeting as many of you as possible over the coming months.
Best wishes,
Peter Crisp
Dean, BPP Law School
After the success of June’s alumni event in Leeds, it was Manchester’s turn to catch up with old friends on November 26th. Over 140 alumni attended the inaugural xBPP Manchester event at Cloud 23, on the 23rd floor of the Beetham Tower, Europe’s tallest residential building.
Guests enjoyed spectacular views over the city, as well as drinks, canapés, and the company of most of the staff from the Manchester Law School. A special presentation was made to LPC lecturer Sarah Pickles, whose hard work made the event possible.
“After three years teaching English in Turin, it was definitely time to come back. Living abroad was something that I had always wanted to do, but after Italy I could fully focus on pursuing my career with an extra language and tons of life experience under my belt."
No one knows more about the intense competition involved in securing a training contract than members of xBPP. Some of those fortunate enough to have secured a contract recently took part in an innovative evening in which they were paired up with current students.
“I stepped in at the last minute, and I was glad I did,” says xBPP member Joe Cobb. “It was useful for the students to talk to practitioners - there’s a thought that someone who works for a law firm is in a different world to you as a student but I don’t think that’s the case at all."
