HE Careers Advisors' Conference

BPP Law School will be holding a conference specifically for careers advisors working in higher education. Along with information dealing with current legal training issues and up-to-date news about BPP Law School, attendees will also have the opportunity to brush up on their legal training knowledge by attending a range of training workshops.
The conference has been designed to be relevant to a range of careers advisors - from those who specialise in law, to those who provide general careers advice. The day will also cater for experienced careers advisors along with those who are new to this area and would like the opportunity to learn more about key areas of law advice.

Pupillage Applications: understanding the changesThis workshop will provide an overview of the new Pupillage Portal Application System and offer tips on how to advise students on preparing effectively for this new application system. The workshop will also provide an insight into what chambers are looking for in their applicants. |
Option 2 |
Applying for Training Contracts in a Recession: what challenges do students face?In light of the tough economic climate, this workshop will explain the impact of fierce competition on making successful training contract applications. The workshop will demonstrate the advice students need to develop creative pathways to success and will deal with how to address student concerns over the impact of the recession. |
Option 3 |
Advising Students on Pro Bono and Legal Internship OpportunitiesThis workshop will focus on the wide range of options available to law students who are interested in gaining practical legal work experience in order to enhance their career prospects. There will be information provided on where to look for such opportunities and there will be tips on the best way to approach voluntary organisations and apply for pro bono and internship positions. |
Option 4 |
Beginner's Guide to Law Careers AdviceThis workshop is the perfect introduction to legal careers advice for those new to this role. The workshop will explain the pathways within law and plan a typical 'careers timetable' for students. Qualification routes for intending solicitors and barristers will be explained along with the main differences between the professions. Practical advice for students including the importance of work experience and how to secure work placements will also be covered. |
Option 5 |
How Students Can Fund Their Career in LawThis session explains the costs involved in training to be a solicitor or barrister and the funding options available to students. Tips will also be given on how to advise students on the types of funding most suitable for their situation and requirements |
Note: All seminar sessions run from 1:15pm - 1:45pm and are repeated at 1:45pm - 2:15pm. You can choose to attend two of the five options.
Copies of all the seminar materials will be available to all conference attendees.
This conference is free to attend and we will provide lunch to all attendees.
