Terms and conditions

There are two prizes, one free place on the Graduate Diploma in Law (GDL) at any one of BPP’s Law Schools and one free place on the Legal Practice Course (LPC) at any one of BPP’s Law Schools.

This competition is for a place on either the GDL or LPC commencing in September 2009 only. There is no cash alternative.

Competition one is for a free place on the GDL.

Competition two is for a free place on the LPC.

The closing date for submitting essays for both competition one and competition two is Friday 23 January 2009 at midnight GMT.

The decision of the judges is final and no correspondence will be considered concerning the outcome of the competition.

Essays can only be submitted by email. Essays for competition one should be emailed to competition1@bpp.com and essays for competition two should be emailed to competition2@bpp.com. Essays emailed to the wrong email address will not be counted. No other form of entry will be accepted.

BPP Law School and Lawyer2B reserve the right to edit, publish and/or make available to the public the winning essays.

Essays must be original work and any form of plagiarism will result in automatic disqualification.

The maximum number of words is 1,500 (excluding footnotes). Essays above this word limit will be disqualified.

Footnotes should appear at the foot of the relevant page and not at end of the essay.

All essays are to be submitted with a cover sheet which must include the following information:

  • Essay number one or two and the corresponding essay question
  • Title, first name and last name
  • Address
  • Telephone number and mobile number and the number you want as your main correspondence number highlighted.
  • Email address
  • University and course/degree (for both current students and graduates)

 

All quotations must be fully referenced using the Harvard referencing style.

 

Essays will be judged on the following criteria:

  • Persuasiveness
  • Clarity
  • Research
  • Structure of argument
  • Content
  • Spelling, punctuation and grammar

 

Entrants must be able to attend a final selection panel in London. If you are successful at getting through to this stage but either fail to attend or unable to attend due to, but not excluding other circumstances, holidays, sickness, work placement, you will forfeit your place.

BPP Law School and Lawyer2B reserve the right to change the date of the final selection panel. Finalists will be notified as soon as possible should this occur.

Finalists called to the final selection panel in London will be provided with more detailed information of their presentation. All presentations will be no more than 15 minutes with up to ten minutes for questions from the panel. All presentations are to be given without the use of handouts, PowerPoint or overhead projector slides and essays are not to be read out verbatim.

BPP Law School and Lawyer2B cannot predict what questions a Finalist will be asked during the presentation. Questions will be based on the Finalist’s essay and the presentation that they give to the panel.

BPP Law School will pay up to £60 towards the cost of travel to the final panel selection day on production of valid receipts.

The competition is open only to students whose GDL or LPC is not being sponsored by any other source. A candidate or finalist who obtains sponsorship during the competition will be disqualified from the competition.

Competition winners must be available to attend publicity and events as requested. If competition winners are unable to attend, the free place will pass to the runner-up in their category.

To accept the prize the winner must meet BPP’s admissions criteria and have applied for a place at any one of BPP’s four Law Schools.

Employees, and their immediate families, of BPP Law School and Lawyer2B are not eligible to enter either of the competitions.
