Baroness Cohen of Pimlico installed as first President of BPP College of Professional Studies

(London, UK) Baroness Cohen of Pimlico has been installed as the first President of BPP College of Professional Studies (“BPP College”) during a formal ceremony at The Guildhall in London tonight.

Baroness Cohen brings to the role considerable experience from both the public and private sectors. She has a long association with BPP College having served as a non-executive director of parent company BPP Holdings between 1994 to 2002, and then as non-executive chairman from 2002 to 2006.

As President, Baroness Cohen will act not only as a figurehead for BPP College’s activities, but also as a representative and ambassador who will speak to the wide audiences BPP College serves, including its students and its local, national and international stakeholders.

Carl Lygo, Principal, BPP College, comments:  “I am delighted that Baroness Cohen has been appointed as the first President of this College.  The creation of the role of President marks a coming of age for BPP College and it is therefore fitting that Baroness Cohen, who has made such a significant contribution to BPP College to date, continues to play a pivotal role in our future success.”

Baroness Cohen, President of BPP College, comments:  “I am honoured to be appointed as BPP College’s first President.  Although it is a relatively young educational institution, it has already built an enviable record of academic and professional excellence.  I look forward to promoting BPP College and working to strengthen its reputation as the UK’s leading centre of higher learning.”

The unanimous decision to appoint Baroness Cohen as President by BPP College’s Academic Council follows the Privy Council’s decision last year to grant BPP College degree awarding powers, making it the first "for profit" private sector company in the UK with these powers.
