Former death row prisoner talks at BPP Law School

Billy MooreBilly Moore, former death row prisoner turned Pentecostal preacher, entertained an audience at BPP Law School, Holborn on 22 April with anecdotes and his views on the death penalty, murder and how lawyers can make a difference.

When questioned at the beginning of the evening, none of the 200 lawyers in the audience supported the death penalty. In Conversation with…Billy Moore was hosted by Jason M Hadden, Head of Advocacy Training, BPP Professional Development.

Jason Hadden said: “It was particularly interesting to have Billy speak at BPP. The fact is that Billy pleaded guilty to murder, was placed on death row for 17 years and released in part by the calls of the victim’s family for clemency. His is an amazing story and perhaps a lesson to us all that prison can be a place for redemption and rehabilitation.”

Billy Moore said: “I have spent the last 17 years since coming out of prison campaigning against the death penalty and talking to lawyers, prisoners, youth groups and schools about my experience. I hope that when people listen to my story they will see that the death penalty is not the answer.”

‘In conversation with…’, a new series featuring high profile speakers from law, are free events for the general public, students and lawyers to attend. Each event provides one hour CPD for lawyers.
