Jones Day to send trainees to BPP Law School

July 07, 2008

Jones Day will be sending its trainees to study the Legal Practice Course (‘LPC’) at BPP Law School (BPP) from September 2008.

Choosing BPP as its preferred partner for the LPC year will ensure a consistent approach and experience for all Jones Day trainees and allow the firm to dovetail study on the LPC with its internal trainee development programme.

Having its trainees studying at BPP will allow Jones Day to tailor parts of the course, in particular the electives, to suit the needs of the firm and more closely reflect its practice areas.

Jones Day believe their decision will provide trainees with a more integrated LPC and Training Contract period, allowing them to become familiar with the firm’s culture and unique non-rotational training system prior to joining the firm.

Lee Coffey, Training Principal and partner in charge of trainee solicitor development at Jones Day, says “We believe there is a very real benefit in being able to streamline our trainees’ experience on the LPC.  Not only does it give us the ability to align their training with our practice strengths, but we can also be much more effective in the subsequent training we provide as part of our internal development programme.  Our trainees will also have the opportunity to get to know one another during the LPC year, as well as mixing with trainees going to other City firms.  We believe this consistent input and improved level of training will give them the best possible preparation for their training contract.”

Peter Crisp, Chief Executive of BPP Law School, said: “BPP is delighted at the prospect of working closely with Jones Day to provide the LPC. Our focus is to produce trainees who are ready to embrace the demands and challenges of a unique training contract and practice.  With our emphasis on business and finance, the LPC at BPP provides first-rate training which enables trainees and law firms to maintain their competitive edge and better meet the needs of clients.”
