This offer of a place is subject to the overriding condition that, on the date the programme commences you will have satisfied, if you have not already done so, the basic requirements both academic and otherwise, for entry on to the programme.
It is necessary for you to fulfil the following requirements before you start the BVC at BPP College of Professional Studies Ltd.:
- you must have at least a 2:2 honours degree;
- you must have completed the academic stage of study. This is met by:
- the award of a Qualifying Law degree, i.e. a Law degree in which the graduate has passed the examinations and assessments set in the 7 Foundations of Legal Knowledge: Public Law, Obligations I (Contract), Obligations II (Torts), Criminal Law, Property Law, Equity & Trusts and the Law of the European Union; or
- by passing a Common Professional Examination and the award of a Graduate Diploma in Law;
- you must be a member of an Inn of Court:
- if your first language is not English, or you do not hold an honours degree that was delivered in English you must have a minimum level of competence in oral and written English Language of at least equivalent to a score of 7.5 in all sections of the International English Language Testing System (IELTS). You will be required to send certified proof of this qualification to the Registry before the start of the programme. Failure to comply with this, or to inform Registry of a valid reason for your not complying with this, by August 1st, will result in your place on the programme being cancelled and you forfeiting the deposit.
It is your responsibility to ensure that you have satisfied these requirements, in particular the Bar Council’s requirements regarding the academic stage of study and have joined an Inn of Court, prior to enrolling on the programme. You must provide confirmation of your degree/CPE/GDL result/Certificate of Academic Standing by 1st August 2008. Please note that if you undertook your degree overseas and/or some time ago you may need to obtain a Certificate of Academic Standing from the Bar Council.
Evidence of all degree qualifications must be submitted and accompanied by either the original or a certified copy of all degree certificate(s) and a full official transcript(s) of all results showing that you have passed all the foundations of legal knowledge subjects. Applicants holding a degree awarded by the University of Cambridge having been awarded a degree through the Tripos System must include a breakdown of their year two and three results. A certified copy is a copy that is signed and stamped by either a qualified Legal Practitioner or the awarding institution. Photocopies of either originals or certified copies are not acceptable. These papers must be submitted by 1st August 2008.
Note that you must have passed all the assessments and examinations set in the 7 Foundations of Legal Knowledge. Condoned or compensated fails do not constitute a pass for the purposes of completing the academic stage of study unless, at the request of the University awarding the degree, the Bar Council has agreed in writing to accept a condoned or compensated fail for qualifying purposes.
You must also submit proof of which Inn of Court you have joined by 1st August 2008. A legible photocopy of your Inn membership card will constitute good proof of your membership of an Inn.
Failure to provide any of the required documents on time and/or failure to satisfy any of these requirements will mean that you will not be registered and/or lead to your withdrawal from the programme. BPP College of Professional Studies Ltd. accepts no responsibility for any losses incurred as a result of you not being permitted to register and/or your withdrawal from the programme.
Specifications for remote access to BPP’s IT network
A number of LPC exercises and resources will need to be accessed via BPP’s IT Network. These exercises and resources can be accessed from within the Law School and outside the Law School and further detailed instructions will be available when you start your programme.
If you wish to access the IT system from outside the Law School there are two methods, depending on what you wish to access:
- Intranet access via www.bpplawschool.com/welcome. This method of access provides full access to the Law School’s intranet, our online library “Click!”, your BPP email account, MCQ tests and the discussion forum. This method requires no special technical requirements other than a standard internet connection. However, for security reasons, you must have logged on and changed your password within the Law School before you can log on outside the Law School.
- Citrix access via the internet by typing in “portal.bpp.com”. In addition to the access available via the intranet above, this method allows you to access Microsoft office applications such as word, PowerPoint and Outlook as well as your personal BPP file space (i.e. your H drive) and networked CDROM packages. If you wish to have this additional access from outside the Law School you must ensure that your home or work computer meets the following specification.
Technical specification for Citrix remote access:
- Windows 2000 Professional/XP Professional/Windows Vista Business. Please note that Windows XP Home edition is not the sameas XP Professional.
- 56kbs modem or faster
- 5MB free space on your C: drive
- Internet Explorer 6 or Netscape 5.0 or later with 128-bit encryption.
When you login, you will need to install a small program on your local PC. If you are accessing from a computer at work you may need to consult your IT department to check that they allow employees to download or install software on to their network.
Alternatively, if you simply want access to documents on your personal file space when you are at home you may wish to buy a ‘memory stick’ storage device.
