Admissions requirements

To apply for the GDL you must meet the following minimum admissions requirements:

  • minimum lower second class UK honours degree (or equivalent), or
  • overseas graduates with a Certificate of Academic Standing (COAS) from the Bar Council or Law Society, or
  • mature non-degree holders with suitable management experience

Priority is given to applicants who have placed BPP as their first choice.

Students from overseas whose first language is not English must demonstrate a sufficient command of English by holding an IELTS Level 6.5 qualification (or equivalent).

Mature non-degree holders

The SRA allow mature non-degree holding candidates to apply to complete the GDL with the desire of going onto complete the LPC.

The SRA state that all applicants must have:

  • considerable vocational experience at middle management level (minimum 10 years)
  • sufficient standard of education
  • good command of spoken and written English

How to apply

Full-time Part-time or distance learning

Applications for the full-time GDL must be made through the Central Applications Board (CAB).

Second round applications for 2008/09 are now open and close at the start of term in September 2008. Offers made to students in the second round are dispatched weekly.

First round applications for September 2009/10 open on 3rd November 2008 and close on 2nd February 2009. Offers will be dispatched on the 9th March 2009.

Please note that places at BPP fill up quickly and you are advised to apply as early as possible.

We aim to process your application within one week of receipt.

Although there is no formal closing date for the receipt of applications, places on the part-time GDL fill up quickly, so early application is advised.
