Preparing you for practice

It is now widely recognised that lawyers must have more than just legal knowledge to be successful. Commercial awareness and high standards of service differentiate one firm from another. Employers expect you to identify this at an early stage by having the necessary skills to work with clients and understand their business needs.

To reflect the growing role of lawyers as business advisers, BPP has designed a business focussed LPC in conjunction with leading law firms and BPP Business School. The programme includes the following features:

  • essential grounding in black letter law and legal skills
  • tuition by experienced solicitors from a variety of practice backgrounds using the highest quality resources
  • training in business and finance that will give you an understanding of the language and culture of business and put your legal training into context
  • BPP programme materials prepared in conjunction with practitioners, based on real-life examples using case and transaction simulations
  • sophisticated online learning to support face-to-face teaching
  • focus on commercial awareness
  • team work on realistic scenarios and transactions to gain greater understanding of clients, business and finance
  • personal tutor support and guidance to increase your confidence and assist you in realising your potential
  • a wide range of electives giving you the opportunity to specialise in your chosen area of law
  • fees inclusive of all manuals, books and other materials needed throughout the programme
  • a number of study modes to suit your individual needs
  • lectures for compulsory modules available in three formats - live in the lecture theatre, as audio files for download onto your MP3 player and as audio-visual MP4 files - giving you the freedom to study when convenient for you and to access the recordings for revision purposes
  • opportunity to convert your LPC, which is taught at master's level, to an LLM (Professional Legal Practice) (Masters in Law)
  • opportunity to gain clinical legal experience through our award-winning pro bono centre
  • networking with like-minded students heading for life as trainees in a wide variety of firms

The teaching staff at BPP were brilliant. They made me laugh a lot, kept me interested in the subjects on offer and were always available for advice on any matter. I would recommend BPP to anyone considering doing the LPC.
