Modes of study

To give you the flexibility to balance your studies with work, family and personal commitments, we offer both full-time and part-time study modes on the LPC.

The full-time and part-time LPC is available in Birmingham, Bristol, Leeds, London (Holborn and Waterloo) and Manchester starting in September 2010. You can also start the full-time LPC in Leeds and Manchester in January 2010.

Full-time LPC

If you are studying full-time you will be given the opportunity to indicate your timetable preference as follows**:

  • four days per week classes between 9am and 6pm with live delivered lectures
  • morning classes between 9am and 1.15pm with live delivered lectures
  • afternoon classes between 1.30pm and 6pm with live delivered lectures
  • three days per week classes between 9am and 6pm with online lectures
  • two days per week classes between 9am and 6pm with online lectures

Regardless of your preferred full-time timetable, you will be expected to study for approximately 40 hours per week. If you opt to have all of your classes on two days for example, you will cover the remaining hours in your own time.

Part-time LPC

If you are studying part-time you will complete stage 1 in one year and stage 2 can be completed in any of the ways listed below, at different start dates throughout the year and at a pace to suit your needs. The whole programme can be completed in as little as 16 months - perfect if you need to continue working, but want to get into practice quickly!

We also offer weekend inductions for the part-time LPC, so you don't need to take time off work to attend. And, if other commitments get in the way of your agreed teaching time, with prior arrangement you can catch up at the weekend or online.

The part-time study options are:

  • part-time evening (two evenings per week)
  • part-time weekend (one weekend every third week)
  • part-time day (four hours per week on one day, normally four hours in the morning or four hours in the afternoon)
  • part-time Saturday
  • blended (12 months or more - at law school and online)

The online study materials used for the blended mode will include live small group sessions delivered in a virtual classroom at a specified time. Recorded lectures for compulsory modules are provided as MP4 and MP3 files together with written materials.

For information on each individual study option please refer to the Essential Programme Guide.
