Legal Professional Qualification: Foundation Certificate in Paralegal Practice

Students studyingBPP Law School and the Institute of Paralegals (the leading not-for-profit professional body for paralegals) are working in partnership to bring you the Institute’s Legal Professional Qualification (LPQ) Foundation Certificate in Paralegal Practice*.

The LPQ Foundation Certificate in Paralegal Practice is a month-long certificated programme designed to give you the essential skills and knowledge needed to practise as a paralegal.

Paralegals are qualified through education, training or work experience to do a job that requires substantial legal knowledge. They work in a wide range of organisations from law firms to the armed forces, in various roles e.g. company secretaries, probation staff, law clerks and insurance claims staff.

A career as a paralegal is open to those without a degree who are organised and professional, have an eye for detail and strong administrative skills. The LPQ Foundation Certificate in Paralegal Practice will help those seeking to start a career as a paralegal, as well as those seeking to advance an existing paralegal career.

If you have a law degree, successful completion of the LPQ Foundation Certificate in Paralegal Practice will make you eligible to apply to be an Associate of the Institute. This will allow you to use the letters A.Inst.Pa after your name and describe yourself as an Associate Paralegal.

After a minimum of one year’s practice experience as a paralegal you will be eligible to apply for Fellowship of the Institute. Fellowship brings with it the professional legal designation of Certified Paralegal and allows you to use the letters F.Inst.Pa after your name.

Please visit the Institute's website for more information on a paralegal career.
